The rules of the terminal
Free to use with credit on all social media platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X…), and livestreams are fine. Neither the music nor remixes, samples or covers of it may be uploaded to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music, because that causes false Content ID claims. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
Allowed
- YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X and other social platforms
- Livestreams and VODs
- Podcasts, games, apps, slideshows and school projects
- Monetized videos and streams
- Downloads of the MP3s for your own projects
Not allowed
- Uploading the music — or remixes, samples or covers of it — to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music or similar streaming services
- Selling the tracks themselves as a music library
- Removing the credit when the licence asks for it
How to credit
Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Shorter forms are fine if they still name the artist and the licence. The packing slip writes the credit for you.
FAQ
Is this royalty free music actually free?
Yes. All 366 tracks here are free to stream, download and use. No sign-up, no email wall, no paid tier. The one thing you owe is a credit line.
What does “royalty free” mean?
Royalty free means you do not pay a fee each time the music is played or viewed. A lot of royalty free music still costs money up front. Here it does not: the licence is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), so free up front and free of royalties after.
Do I have to credit Purrple Cat?
Yes. CC BY 4.0 asks for credit, and that is the whole price. “Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0” in a description, caption, show notes or credits screen is enough.
Can I use it in monetized videos and streams?
Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use, so monetized videos, livestreams, sponsors and ads on your content are fine. Follow each platform’s own rules too.
Will I get a Content ID claim?
Not from Purrple Cat. These Self Releases are not registered in YouTube Content ID. Once in a while a third party falsely claims a track — dispute it with the licence and your credit line.
What’s not allowed?
Uploading the music — or remixes, samples or covers of it — to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music. That causes false Content ID claims for everyone who uses the music.
Can I download the MP3s?
Yes. Every track has a full-length MP3 download. No watermark, no preview clip, never WAV on this site.
Who is Purrple Cat?
Purrple Cat is a solo lofi project that started in December 2018 with the album Up All Night. Since then: 500+ songs, 500M+ streams and 425K followers. No face reveal — just the purple cat on the covers.
Is any of this AI music?
No. Purrple Cat writes and produces the music. No AI-generated tracks.
